March 28, 2009

Ok... I'm sure many of you are wondering about our house... or maybe you don't even know we are buying a house. Well, let me update everyone about the worst process we have ever been a part of.

April 4th 2008:
First date.

May:
Get engaged... start looking for a house.

June:
Everything... awful!

July:
More of the same.

August 1st:
Get Married.

September:
Don't remember.

October:
Put an offer on a house.

November:
Sellers are crazy (bank owned).

December:
Continue to rent vs. buying.

January 2009:
Find the house of our dreams... put in an offer... bidding war... we win... offer accepted.

February:
Mortgage company sucks and pulls financing last minute (didn't accept my 2nd job as income).... found new company... everything ok.

March (Friday the 13th):
Sign papers (kill a few trees)... close in 48 hours... right?

March 18 - 27:
Still haven't closed... waiting for bank to sign (oh ,and our loan expires if we don't close by Mar 30th)

March 27 2:08pm Pacific time:
Jodi, our agent calls to tell me we are going to close on Monday the 30th (the last day possible)... meanwhile, Kim (loan officer) calls Meg to tell her the same news (Jodi and Kim "tag-teamed" so we would both know as soon as possible).

Meg and I have realized a few things... First all the home buying programs (HGTV) are crap! You don't get the keys moments after you sign! There are not 7 to 10 people there cheering you on sitting at a large beautiful conference table... The numbers you see at the beginning of the process are not the ones you see on the final papers... and the elation seen on the faces of new homeowners is not just because they have a house, but because the whole thing is over!

ps. this is the super condensed version!
